Digital Economy and Eco-Responsibility: A Common Commitment to Greening Africa

On the occasion of June 1st, which marks the launch of the national reforestation campaign in Togo, it is crucial to raise awareness among digital economy professionals about their responsibility in protecting the environment. In a world where digital technologies are both a powerful development tool and a growing source of ecological impact, eco-responsibility is no longer optional—it is a necessity.

Togo has set ambitious reforestation goals, aiming to plant one billion trees by 2030 and increase forest cover to 25% by 2025. The national reforestation campaign, launched in 2017, mobilizes citizens, public and private institutions, and companies to restore the country’s green cover.

In this context, the 3rd edition of the International Conference and Exhibition of Digital Economy Professionals of the WAEMU region (SIPEN-UEMOA), scheduled for September 24–26, 2025, in Lomé, is a unique opportunity to reinforce the commitment of digital actors to environmental responsibility. All participants are invited to contribute to the campaign by planting trees, a gesture symbolizing their dedication to sustainable development.

Digital economy professionals can adopt several eco-conscious practices, such as optimizing energy consumption in IT infrastructure, promoting the recycling of electronic devices, and educating users on sustainable digital behaviors. By integrating these actions into their daily operations, they help reduce the sector’s carbon footprint and contribute to climate action.

In summary, the National Tree Planting Day and SIPEN-UEMOA 2025 serve as a rallying call for digital professionals to reaffirm their commitment to the planet. By actively participating in reforestation efforts and embracing green practices, they help build a more sustainable future for Togo and the entire WAEMU region.
